This was a nice little tidbit from our recent Econ Nobel Prize winner:
"There’s no obvious reason why consumer demand can’t be sustained by the spending of the upper class — $200 dinners and luxury hotels create jobs, the same way that fast food dinners and Motel 6s do."I thought, perhaps Krugman was being excessively sarcastic, but the first comment on his post settled it:
"Yes the economy they created is the one we are bailing out now - you must have gotten some bad eggnog in Stockholm, Paul."Ah! I think, perhaps, someone at the Nobel conference slipped him the good eggnog! Here's evidence at the scene of the crime.
